It all began with silk. In 1986, the family patriarch entered the trade of pure silk, supplying Egypt's carpet industry at a time when handmade rugs defined domestic refinement. Though not yet makers, they stood at the origin of excellence — understanding material, understanding quality, understanding what endures.
In 2002, that understanding deepened with the founding of ElSultan Carpet School in Sakkara, Cairo — a cultural institution devoted to the living art of weaving. Recognised internationally, ElSultan became a cornerstone of Egypt's carpet heritage, built on authenticity and the belief that craft is worth preserving.
In 2011, the founder travelled to India to forge ties with master artisans, establishing the partnerships and standards that would define everything that followed.
In 2016, three decades of accumulated knowledge culminated in the founding of Tappeti by ElSultan, with its first branch at Downtown Mall — Cairo's design hub.
In 2021, Tappeti expanded to Arkan Mall in West Cairo, led by the founder's children, continuing a family tradition of stewardship, craftsmanship and uncompromising standard.
